Can over-the-counter drugs hurt your kidneys? | Your Kidneys Your Health | @qasimbuttmd

So you have all those medications in your medicine cabinet, and you bought them over the counter, without the need for a prescription from a doctor.
But can any of them hurt your kidneys.
Well one class of common over the counter pain medications possibly can.

They are known as NSAIDs:

Drugs in this class are those common pain meds we take for those aches and bruises, including:
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
Naproxen (Alleve)

Now these are completely safe drugs, especially if you have normal kidneys already, but if taken in excessive amounts can cause kidney injury.
