What is KIDNEY INJURY? | Your Kidneys Your Health | @qasimbuttmd
So what is kidney injury? But what does that actually mean. And what things or events cause kidney injury?
There are two types of kidney failure:
Chronic is the type of kidney disease that I talk about all the time, from diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a sudden episode of kidney failure or kidney damage that happens within a few hours or a few days. AKI causes a build-up of waste products in your blood and makes it hard for your kidneys to keep your electrolytes and fluid in your body balanced.
Acute kidney injury is common in patients who are in the hospital, especially in older adults, but even can happen to regular people.
